Redwood County United Way is proud to partner with local agencies to help fund and advance the reach of their causes. One of those agencies is the Redwood Area Compassionate Friends, the local chapter of the nationwide organization “The Compassionate Friends”. This organization exists to help anyone who has lost a child, no matter what age they died.
The purpose is to provide support to each other. They find that when a child dies, there is overwhelming community support initially, but as time goes on, it is difficult for the parents to find people who really understand what they are going through. The Redwood Area Compassionate Friends meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Gilwood Haven, 217 South Mill Street in Redwood Falls.
Attending a meeting does not mean you have to share your story, or talk about what happened. Just being around others who have gone through similar situations, and understand the feelings you are going through is sometimes enough…your comfort is important to the group.
Along with attending meetings, the group also offers materials for you to borrow such as books and videos about grief that many have found helpful. There is also a monthly newsletter that is sent out with articles written by parents, for parents, and also includes a reminder of the next meeting.
If you, or someone you know, has a lost a child please contact one of the following people below or attend a meeting, they are here to help and give you support!
